With all the hype about the Olympics, it's clear that all the excited individuals are wandering around downtown looking for some free fun. The Ziptrek tour is no exception.
On Tuesday this week, I went downtown with a friend to experience the 20 second zipline adventure across Robson Square. My friend and I arrived in downtown and took a spot in line at about 11:30am, being told that it was a seven hour wait. Hopeful and excited, we ignored the warnings and laughs of security guards. Take it from me: you should heed their warnings. An hour or two in, the wait was still alright and we had moved a good 15 feet. It was actually not too bad until the rain started to pour. Drenched and irritated, many of us shivered in the cold and hid under umbrellas or even tree branches. About an hour later, Olympic volunteers arrived to deliver some free tattoos, Robson Square pins, and much needed yellow "You Gotta Be Here" ponchos. After a long seven hours, we finally reached the front of the line, and were suited up for our zipline adventure. I have to admit, after stopping at the top and looking down, I was almost too afraid to continue. But thankfully, I kept looking forward and it was an exciting experience.
Overall, It was pretty great, if you ask me. That is, minus the seven hour wait, the rain, and the cold... Okay, so if you add up all those things maybe it wasn't so much worth the 20 seconds. But I assure you, if you're looking for a little exhilaration, can handle long waits and bring a friend, it won't be so bad.
