It's true, and more.

After leaving Yahoo! Fancouver, we seemed to walk all along central downtown.

I took personal interest in the almost complete Robert Lee YMCA, and marvelled at the new building.

Then we walked into to what I call Starbucks traverse (Robson and Thurlow), well not really walked into, more like got stuck (like peanut butter to the roof of your mouth stuck) because there was a flashmob dancing in the street. Everyone stopped to watch and eventually Mel and I found refuge standing on a chair at Starbucks.

Later on,when we passed by Guess, I literally did a double take when I saw a real models standing in 2 of Guess's store display windows. It wa cool to see, but boy did I feel bad for them because they had to stand for a long time in a pose and watch as everyone stared at them and took pictures from the other side of the glass.

Walked down to the Convention center to see the Torch. It was weird looking at it through wire fencing, but it's large enought that the fence doesn't really inhibt the view. Leaving, I swear I saw Shaun White. He's not hard to miss, but since I feel bad for invading his privacy and personal experience I left him alone. Kept walking, down to Canada Place aka the MPC, then back up to Robson where we saw The Bay's windows fixed, and life seemingly more normal. We did manage to find one crack left in the windows.
